Amazing Grace is one of my all time favorite movies. I saw it at the theater and bought the DVD the day it was released. It is the powerful story of 18th century abolitionist William Wilberforce, who's twenty year fight in British Parliament brought an end to the slave trade. His allies included Britian's youngest Prime Minister William Pitt and Wilberforce's pastor John Newton, who wrote the time tested hymn Amazing Grace. Wilberforce was the founder of the SPCA, fought for education and health care for the poor, and prison reform. It is a remarkable story with an exceptional cast of characters.
